DEEPER DIVE: DESIRE
Now that you’ve had a chance to become familiar with the practice of desire inventory, and you can see that often what you think you desire, is really a thing you believe is a source of what you really desire (a True Desire of the Higher Self), let’s have a look at your desires a tiny bit closer.
Read all of the instructions below before starting.
-In your journal, write one thing you desire to experience, acquire, or achieve in the next year, and make it something for which you know you are going to have to make some sort of a big mental shift in order to accomplish. DO NOT CENSOR. BYPASS THE DEFEATIST THOUGHTS THAT WILL IMMEDIATELY POP INTO YOUR HEAD. We’re just having a conversation here to explore. Make it good. It should be something you'd consider at minimum a tiny miracle should you accomplish it, and it should be a thing that would make a significant improvement in your quality of life, and should also be of measurable service to others in some direct or indirect way. It's easier than you think. Anything you wish for can be of service if you intend it to. When you write this desire, please write it as follows, using the basic script of Desire Inventory, with the addition of a few extra steps:
I desire_______________. (This should be something outside of yourself that you perceive yourself as not already having, and should be stripped down to one phrase. For example, a car, to start a business, to go back to school, to pursue a specific passion, to take a trip to somewhere specific, to fall in love, etc...)
If I have _______<insert the above desire>______, then ___<insert the impact on your life>_____.
If _____<insert the impact on your life>____, then I will experience ____<insert a feeling such as success, love, pleasure, peace of mind, power, clarity, connection, strength, joy, intimacy, abundance, sweetness, etc...>____.
If I feel ___<insert the feeling>____, then I will be____<insert a state of being such as free, powerful, peaceful, generous, kind, loving, happy, satisfied, purposeful, courageous, successful, on purpose, dynamic, awake, full, etc...>_____
If I am ___<insert state of being>___, then those who cross my path will benefit by ___<insert benefit to others>___.
The emotion I felt while writing this was __<insert emotion...sadness, fear, excitement, lack, self doubt, resistance, passion, joy, anger, stress, etc...>___.
The most heightened sensation in my body while writing this is ___<insert an actual physical sensation such as tingling in your feet, muscle tension in your back, pressure in your chest, itching palms, buzzing in your lips, heat in the face, goosebumps on your skin, sweaty hands, etc... NO POETIC METAPHOR... just actual sensation>__.
Notice your emotions around your desire. What things did you notice about your thoughts and emotions? What beliefs can you discern might be getting in the way? Save this exercise in your notebook. We will use this particular desire to focus on throughout the remaining lessons of this course.
